Born in Brazil, Marcus began learning the double bass at the age of 15 and moved to Manchester in 2018 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with the renowned double bassist Jiří Hudec, where he graduated from his undergraduate degree with First Class with Honours.

 

In 2017, Marcus was awarded the VI Ernâni de Almeida Machado Meyer prize by the São Paulo State Youth Symphony Orchestra (OJESP) as their "Young Musician of the Year". In 2020, he was a prize winner in the DoContra International Double Bass Competition and in 2021 he won the Thomas Jellis Bequest Award. More recent achievements include the ABRSM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Award, the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation’s Tuition Assistance Scholarship Award and the RNCM Concerto Competition.

 

Since 2021, Marcus has been collaborating with several professional orchestras in the UK and abroad, including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He is also a member of the Sinfonia Cymru and the Chineke! Orchestra. In 2022, Marcus was the first Brazilian musician to complete the "Professional Experience Scheme" with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and, earlier this year (2023), Marcus made his debut as a soloist in the UK, performing the British premiére of Andrés Martin’s Double Bass Concerto No. 1 with the BBC Philharmonic, marking 23 years since the orchestra performed a double bass concerto.

During his studies at the RNCM, Marcus was selected to perform in several projects with renowned ensembles such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Manchester Camerata, BBC Philharmonic and The Hallé. Marcus has also recorded 4 CDs with the São Paulo State Youth Symphony Orchestra and took part in their Brazilian Tour with the renowned tenor Andréa Bocelli in 2017 as principal double bass.
 

As a chamber musician, Marcus was member of the OJESP String Quintet and "Contra a 4" double bass quartet, performing in various occasions in 2017 and 2018 respectively, as part of their chamber music concert series. Marcus has also collaborated in performances with musicians from the "Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris" under the direction of their principal, Bruno Mantovani. During his time at RNCM, Marcus reached the Top 3 of the Nossek Prize with his String Quintet and founded the double bass quartet "Bassically Quartet", whose most recent performance was at the Mcr: Classical festival, at the Bridgewater Hall, in Manchester.
 

As a soloist, Marcus has performed several times in Brazil as a soloist with orchestras such as EMESP - Tom Jobim String Orchestra, São Paulo String Orchestra and Goiás State Youth Symphony Orchestra, as well as various performances in Brazil and Argentina with the "Instituto Grupo Pão de Açúcar Orchestra".
